(September 8, 2009) Inspection crews will survey a portion of the City of Frisco’s wastewater collection system from September 15 to October 30. The survey will identify areas needing maintenance. Testing requires crews to open and inspect manholes and sewer lines in the streets and easements around homes and businesses.
The annual test will be done this year in the area bordered by Main Street on the north, Lebanon Road on the south, Preston Road on the west and Coit Road on the east. South of Rolater Road, the eastern edge of the testing area runs along Hillcrest Road and Ohio Drive. View a map of the area. Residents will receive a door hanger notifying them a few days before inspection begins along their street.
During testing, residents may see smoke outside coming from vents on houses and buildings or from holes in the ground. This smoke is harmless to people and pets, has little odor and is not a fire hazard. The smoke should not enter homes. To help prevent smoke from entering your home, run water through all drains. A filled drain trap will keep out the smoke. Air conditioning units should also run within several hours of testing to fill the condensation drain trap with water.
If smoke does end up inside after taking these steps, it could be a sign of faulty plumbing, signaling the potential for dangerous sewer gasses to enter your home or business. Contact a member of the smoke testing crew at 972-620-1255. The inspector can check the sewer lines around your home or business to possibly determine the source of the smoke. Call a licensed plumber for further testing or repair if needed.
City of Frisco Public Works staff will be working with crews from GSWW, Inc. to do the sewer inspections. City staff and GSWW staff wear uniforms and carry identification badges. Homeowners do not need to be home during testing, and at no time will crews have to enter homes or businesses.
