May 7, 2016 Special Local Option Election

The City of Frisco received a petition from a Political Action Committee (PAC) called Frisco Committee for Economic Growth.  The intent of the PAC is to legalize the sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages in Frisco.

After verifying a sufficient number of signatures, the petition was presented to the Frisco City Council on October 6, 2015. The City Council called a Special Local Option Election to legalize the sale of all types of alcohol within the corporate city limits of Frisco.  The Special Local Option Election is ordered for May 7, 2016 and will coincide with the General Election for Council Members.

The measure will appear on the ballot as follows:

The legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages.

            □          For

            □          Against

Visit the October 6, 2015 Council Meeting to view more detailed information regarding ordering the Special Local Option Election.  Items 73, 74, and 75 discuss verification and acceptance of the petition and calling the election.

May 7, 2016 General Election Candidate Information

If you are interested in being a candidate in the May 7, 2016 General Election, the sites below will help you get started.

The Texas Ethics Commission website has campaign forms and instruction guides.  You will need to appoint a Treasurer before you accept or expend money.  You can be your own treasurer or you can appoint someone else.  You can amend your treasurer at any time.  The Campaign Treasurer forms can be downloaded and returned to the City Secretary’s Office.  There are specific dates you will need to report your financial information.  The City Secretary’s office will not be sending reminders.  Our office only accepts and files the forms.  The Texas Ethics Commission is responsible for enforcement.

A Personal Financial Disclosure Statement (PFS) is one of the forms you will have to file.  It can also be found on the Texas Ethics Commission website.  You will be required to list stocks, investments, property, etc. and it is a public record.  It is not due until April and further instructions will be sent out after January 2016.

Also, please visit the Texas Secretary of State’s website for election information.  You will want to find the May 2016 General Election Calendar and make it your best friend.  Dates are important!

The City Secretary’s Office will provide a Campaign Filing Packet near the middle of January that you can download and save to your computer.  This packet will have all the forms required to file for a place on the ballot along with instruction on how to do so.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact the City Secretary’s Office at citysec@friscotexas.gov.
