Beginning at 11 a.m., parade participants will leave FC Dallas Stadium, traveling east on Main Street through historic downtown before finishing at North County Road. Main Street will be closed between World Cup Way and Dogwood Street Saturday morning, November 10, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for the Community Parade. Council member Cpt. Tim Nelson, Sgt. Carlos Liscano to serve as Grand Marshals
Celebrate community pride while honoring veterans this Saturday, November 10 at the annual Frisco Community Parade through historic downtown. Participants will head up Main Street, beginning at 11 a.m. Frisco City Council member and U.S. Army Reserve Captain Tim Nelson along with Vietnam veteran, U.S. Army Sgt. Carlos Liscano will be honored as parade grand marshals. The theme of this year’s parade is “Welcome Home”.
“It’s fitting that this year’s parade theme is ‘Welcome Home’ since council member Tim Nelson just returned from his tour in Afghanistan,” said Mayor Maher Maso, honorary chairman, Frisco Community Parade Committee. “We’re also marking the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and those who served, including our own Carlos Liscano, Vietnam vet, longtime resident, community servant and volunteer.”
Cpt. Nelson returned home this week after being deployed to Afghanistan with the 980th Engineer Battalion to support Operation Enduring Freedom in November 2011. He is an Iraq war veteran and has served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 23 years. Cpt. Nelson’s community service extends beyond the military. He was elected to the Frisco City Council, Place 5 in May 2011.
Sgt. Liscano served the U.S. Army from 1965 – 68. He was awarded the Bronze Star for service in Vietnam.
Liscano moved to Frisco in 1968. Through the years, he has mentored FISD students, served as Post commander of Frisco’s VFW Post, and is credited with helping establish the city’s public Memorial Day service... cont. reading.

$150 for non-profit and youth organizations
$250 for businesses and professional organizations
Attractions of the parade include Frisco fire and police vehicles, the Frisco fire clowns, the homecoming/forthcoming royalty of high schools, team mascots, representatives of Frisco’s professional sports teams, and floats and marchers from various civic and youth groups.
This year’s winning float entries will have Frisco Education Foundation scholarships donated in their names in May of 2013. The Grand Prize is worth a $1,000 scholarship; first runner up is a $750 scholarship; and honorable mention is a $500 scholarship. Bragging rights trophies will be awarded to the best high school, middle school, and elementary school float. School spirit themes are also encouraged. There is no registration fee for schools.

The Frisco Community Parade is a collaboration between the City of Frisco, Frisco Independent School District, Frisco Chamber of Commerce, Frisco Veterans Advisory Committee, Frisco Style, School of Rock and 97.5 KLAK Radio. The Frisco Community Parade Committee is chaired by Mayor Maher Maso and made up of several community volunteers.
